Well, today my son came home from school and asked me what day it was. I told him that it was Tuesday, September 11th. He told me he already knew that, but did I know what happened today? And being the good parent I am I acted oblivious and said no what happened. He said well it happened in 2001...you know where the planes crashed into the buildings and a bunch of people died. I said I remember, but you were awful small to remember. He said he didn't remember, but that they talked about it at school and he really felt sad about it. So I told him the story of that day...as I remember it. I remember getting up and getting ready for class. Music History that is. I then loaded up my car and took Austin to his Granny Pat's. When I arrived she asked me if I knew what was going on...I said no. She said a plane ran into the world trade center. I said WOW. I stood there watching the tv as another plane swooped around and hit the second tower. I thought that's strange...what is going on. I then had to head out to class or I was going to be late. So I get in the car and listen to the radio all the way to class. I still could not grasp what was going on. Once we got to school, my professor, of course, taught class as usual. After that I left school for the day and headed over to my parents house. My dad had surgery recently and was home recovering. So we sat and watched tv that afternoon in a trance almost. I then went and picked up Austin...went home...and lit candles and placed them out on the porch for all those that had lost their lives. I then told Austin that we could light candles and place them on the porch and he was all for it. He picked them out and then we lit them, but he didn't want to go inside. He sat on the porch for the longest time looking at the candles. I hope that my son doesn't ever see a tragedy in his life (he was almost 2 when it occured) where people are so cruel as to kill innocent people for there own advancement. This was so close to home.
