We woke up at 5:30am to get ready and were out of the hotel by 6:30am. We went to the train station where we had a 3 hour train ride to Machu Picchu. The countryside was lovely!
We arrived in the town of Machu Picchu and then we had to take a bus up the side of the mountain. It was very interesting riding in zigzags up the side of a mountain where you could see right off the cliff. We then went through the gate and climbed our way to the top where we had our first views of Machu Picchu!
We then ventured through the ancient city with our tour guide and learned lots about each of the different areas. This part is the university.
These are the terraces that they used to farm.
Inside the city.
The modern city that is at the base of Machu Picchu where you catch the bus and train.
There was a huge market that you had to walk through in order to get back to the train station. It was full of stalls of Peru souvenirs.
We then boarded the train for another 3 hour ride back to Cusco. Where we went back to the hotel and got ready to leave for our plane ride back to Lima the next day.
