As Promised...

here is an update of the paintings that I completed for my art class that I took this summer.

My first painting was of apples. I set up apples in my house and took a photo and then painted from that photo. While it is not a true likeness of the apples...I am pleased with the way it turned out. It is finally finished! YAY!!!!

And here is the final painting....

For my second painting I had to choose an artist that I liked and research them. I chose vanGogh, I know it isn't the most original choice, but I love his style...the way the paint is applied liberally, the various colors, and the fact that his stuff is not like a realistic painting didn't hurt :) My cousin asked me to paint for her so this is the painting for her. I chose a picture from our adventure to Clingman's Dome when they were visiting. The picture is from the parking area before you hike up the hill...it had just finished raining and there were still dark clouds throwing all these amazing shadows and to the right side of where we were standing there was a beautiful green hillside with just a small patch of mountain laurel on the slope...in the picture it is not very prominant, but I made it much bigger for the painting.

Here is my painting...Kristie...I hope you like it :)

For my final painting...I wanted to challenge myself...so I asked about a still life painting. Very realistic. I sketched and did the base layer in class and then came home. I had a really hard time with this painting. I worked on it for several hours and could not get it to look right, so finally I gave up and did it the way that I "saw" it. It isn't finished yet, but I can show you what it looks like so far...please keep in mind that the photo does not do it justice....but it has been rainy for a few days and I had to take the pics indoors...

Original photo (photo I took of the set up)

and here is my attempt at realistic painting...hehe...at least I know what my style is right?

Thanks to all of you who have been asking and making sweet comments about my paintings! This is definitely something I enjoy doing and will stick with :)

And yes, I love the painting! I've been wandering around the house trying to decide which room - living room or bedroom?
