Martha no longer

Many people that know me call me a Martha...as in Martha Stewart. I am just one of those people that likes everything to be perfect. SO, of course, I love the title. I wish I could be like her really, but alas I am not. Tonight is one blatant reason why.....I have a deep dark secret....and it is..........

I can't cook {{{EEK}}}. No seriously it's true. My grandmother can cook, and therefore my mom can cook because my grandmother taught her, but it ends with me. When I was growing up my mom didn't cook a whole lot. She worked full-time and then some so when she did cook it was quick fix items. Now I'm not blaming her because I KNOW she was tired. Anyway, I didn't get the cooking gene. Now I can bake all day long and that is because I loved doing it when I grew up...I used to make my own bread, muffins, cakes, etc. So now my family suffers because of it. I can't make a good dinner to save my life. It is so frustrating to try and make something new and follow the recipe exactly and it not cook right or taste terrible. Blech! And tonight is no exception...I took beef tips and marinated them and then cooked them in the skillet, I took oriental vegetables and steamed them and then added the teryaki sauce that it came with and made some oriental fried rice....so here's how it turned out...the meat was beyond tough (I think it was the meat and not me...I usually cook meat pretty good), the sauce on the vegetables was disgusting (I didn't make it, but it still was not edible) and finally the rice wasn't cooked all the way so it was crunchy.....YUCK! So my nice dinner turned into a disaster...and at the moment I hear the whir of the garbage disposal as my dear husband throws the food into it. So, I have to live with my grandmother teasing me because we eat out all the time, but truely I try......:(
