Green Cleaning

As some of you know about 2 months ago I was leaving to go out of town and as usual I did a heavy duty cleaning of the house before I left. Well, I cleaned my shower and I guess I got some of the chemical on my face. I remeber coughing and leaving the room for a minute after spraying the cleanser. Well, later that night on the way to Nashville, I had to make my husband pull over at a gas station so I could wash my face because it was BURNING. It eventually made my whole face red and the skin roughed up and peeled. It was terrible...but what do you do? Well you go green cleaning. I have done tons of research on this subject and have been very happy with what I have found. First off...it is actually more cost effective to clean green than it is to clean with chemicals AND it is much safer and healthier for you and your family!

If you would like to try green cleaning here are a few things you will need:

List:
Baking Soda
Club Soda
Murphy's liquid soap
Vinegar
Lemon juice (not pictured)

And here is how you use them...
Tub and sink:
Sprinkle area with baking soda and wash with wet rag then rinse...if you need more cleaning power add a couple drops of Murphy's soap

Window and mirror cleaner:
Get empty spray bottle fill 1/4 of the way with vinegar and fill the rest of the way with water...Spray mirror or window...wipe with lint free rag or squeegie.

Toliet bowl cleaner:
pour baking soda and couple of drops of murphy's soap into bowl and scrub with toliet brush. To clean outside of toliet use baking soda and rag.

All purpose cleaner:
A couple of drops of murphy's soap...rag...water...scrub!

As you can see this is all ridiculously easy stuff to do! Now if you are like me and like to have "special" cleaning products...you can go online or to local stores and purchase already mixed and enviornmentally safe products for your home....I purchased these products at my local grocery store with the exception of the dish soap which I bought at a health food store.

I have purchased....dish soap, dishwasher detergent, all prupose cleaner, carpet cleaner, hardwood floor cleaner, and furniture polish. The GREAT thing about these products is that they are safe for your home and fairly cost effective. These cleaners ranged from $3.49 to $5.49.
Also another big thing with green cleaning is that homes are so well built that air doesn't move and becomes stagnant so you should open your windows and let air flow through your home regularly. Also, if you need a fragrance or air freshner you need to boil water with lemon juice.
Alright...now I am off to clean with all of my new goodies!!!!!

Awesome tips! There is a show in England called "How clean is your house?" (It is also on BBC America here) and they use all this kinda old fashioned natural stuff ~ Works wonders!
